In February, the National History Museum of Transylvania brings you events in tune with the main holidays of the month. One of these is a new exhibition in the premises of Iulius Mall – Aphrodisiacs and anti-aphrodisiacs over time
In the past, the control of libido was a very serious matter, primarily related to the provision of offspring, in large numbers (due to high infant mortality). The existence and survival of descendants ensured the transmission of family assets, values and memory of parents, and even their salvation, through religious services. The restraint of libido was also important in the context of the strict control of sexual behavior in traditional societies, especially of women and celibate priests/monks. Aphrodisiacs and anti-aphrodisiacs were also found in pharmacies, some based on bizarre, exotic ingredients, sometimes of animal origin. About all this, the National History Museum of Transylvania is preparing an exhibition in the premises of Iulius Mall (upstairs), starting from February 14 and until the end of the month, whose curator is Ana-Maria Gruia.
