LABORATORY
In order for the objects in the museum's collection to be preserved in the best conditions, for as long as possible, but also to be as authentic as possible in the exhibition, we need conservation and restoration specialists. The scientific research of cultural assets is extremely important in knowing them as completely as possible, but also in the correct understanding of the causes of the degradations suffered and, at the same time, in choosing the applied restoration methodology.
All these activities are carried out at the MNIT by the Restoration and Investigations Section whose main activities are curative conservation, restoration and investigation of objects that are part of the museum's heritage. The Restoration Laboratory is accredited to carry out conservation and restoration interventions on several types of objects depending on the material from which they are made: textiles, ceramics, glass, metal, paper, wood, tempera painting and oil.
The interventions of curative conservation and restoration are directed with predilection towards the cultural assets already in the museum collections, but also towards the mobile archaeological heritage resulting from research carried out by MNIT specialists. The department's activity is also completed by carrying out physical-chemical investigations and analyzes on the objects in the museum's heritage. In order to be aware of the news in the field, we participate in communication sessions, national and international conferences, but also in restoration salons and publish in specialized magazines.
